Reporting to the Operations Manager, the person will be responsible and accountable for pursuing accounts in arrears in line with the Credit Union’s credit control policy.

The Credit Controller’s duties include:

  • Monitoring and contacting members in arrears in line with the agreed strategy
  • Interviewing and assisting members in arrears
  • Advising members on responsible financial management and budgeting
  • Performing house visits to delinquent members
  • Preparing reports as required
  • Attending and participating in meetings
  • Carrying out loan book reviews and analysis
  • Performing Members Services Officer duties

The successful candidate will possess the following ESSENTIAL qualifications and skills:

  • Leaving Certificate (or equivalent)
  • Have at least two years experience in a credit control role
  • Possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Possess excellent organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Have strong IT application skills, Excel in particular
  • Have an understanding of the evolving credit union business model and ethos
  • Have the ability to work on own initiative and meet targets and deadlines
  • Have the ability to work both independently and in a team

The following qualifications and skills are DESIRABLE for the role:

  • Pathways Diploma in CU Operations /ACCUP/any other qualification which meets the Minimum Competency Code requirements
  • Have at least two years experience in a cash handling role
  • Have experience of the Personal Insolvency Act 2012
  • Have experience of dealing with those in financial difficulties
  • Have Credit Union experience

This position is a full-time fixed contract for a period of one year and will involve work at weekends.

Buncrana Credit Union (BCU) is seeking a Finance Officer.

Reporting to the Finance and Compliance Manager carrying out a range of finance duties.

The Finance Officer’s duties will include:

  • Carrying out bank reconciliations
  • Carrying out petty cash account reconciliations and processing travel and subsistence claims
  • Financial Reporting
  • Carrying out supplier payments and reconciliations
  • Supporting the Budgeting process
  • Other finance tasks

The successful candidate will possess the following ESSENTIAL qualifications and skills:

  • At least 2 years experience in a finance/accounts role carrying out bank reconciliations                                                                                and managing the accounts payable function
  • Strong accounting skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Strong IT application skills, Excel in particular
  • Have the ability to work on own initiative and meet targets and deadlines
  • Have the ability to work both independently and in a team
  • Have the understanding of the evolving credit union business model and ethos

The following qualifications and skills are DESIRABLE for the role:

  • Accounting Technician or equivalent with relevant experience
  • A credit union specific qualification which meets the standards of the Minimum Competency Code                                                         (e.g. ACCUP or Pathways Diploma in CU Operations)
  • At least 1 years experience in Credit Unions or other Financial Institutions
  • At least 1 years experience reporting to senior management

This position is a part-time fixed contract (4 days per week)for a period of one year.
