The Lighthouse

The Lighthouse is a Social Enterprise, powered by IDP trading for a societal purpose where finances will be earned from trading activity and profits will be re-invested into the social objective.

The Mission is:

To unlock the potential of Inishowen as a vibrant place of shared opportunity for social innovation.

The Purpose is:

To engage as an active collaborator for knowledge, expertise and learning within and beyond Inishowen
To enable strategic developments and opportunities.
To connect and open pathways for those who live and work in Inishowen
To be economically sustainable in order to support our social mission.

The Story so far:

ISEN:

The LightHouse is a member of ISEN (Inishowen Social Enterprise Network), a network of Social Enterprises based around the Inishowen.

The THRIVE programme, a bespoke Training programme, is currently being delivered under The LightHouse IDP to ISEN members and other Community/Voluntary organisations based in Inishowen by Enterprise North West and Irvine Training.

In November 2020, The LightHouse introduced VillagePod, a Shop Local App to Inishowen. We love our community #lovinglocal and wanted to do more to help support local businesses prepare for Christmas and trading during pandemic restrictions by encouraging #ShopLocal.

In Spring 2021, The LightHouse designed the concept for the ISEN Logo, which represents the robust Social Enterprise Network in Inishowen. (Image ISEN)

In early Summer 2021, The LightHouse applied for and was successful in sourcing funding from Donegal County Council to deliver a Sea Safety Awareness Programme for new/novice sea swimmers in Inishowen. This was a highly popular programme, “DaretoDip!” and 60 participants took part in the 4-week programme. Support in the form of vlogs, were sourced from Inishowen swimming community which provided a wonderful source of information, tips and a shared passion for using the water for physical and mental well-being.
