Multiple opportunities with the CE childcare scheme

2023 could be the year for you to start a new career in childcare.

Right now there are multiple opportunities to gain employment in the early years childcare sector across Inishowen.

Through the CE childcare scheme anyone who has been unemployed/in receipt of a social welfare payment for 12 months or more and is over the age of 21, can apply for any of the active positions.

Experience in this sector is not necessary as full training will be provided by the childcare centre.

People will also have the opportunity to complete professional qualifications whilst completing the scheme – with CE covering the cost of the courses.

In Inishowen the CE Childcare Scheme is co-ordinated by Inishowen Development Partnership [IDP], with CE Supervisor Pauline Coyle overseeing the scheme locally on behalf of DSP.

Pauline believes this is a great time for anyone to get involved in early years childcare as it is a changing sector. In 2022 there were a number of changes to the sector and Pauline is hopeful that there will be further changes in 2023.

“I think the Government will step in and improve working conditions in the early years sector soon,” said Pauline.

“Early years teachers and childcare providers do such important, good work and they deserve to be paid in a way that reflects their hard work and dedication.

“The great thing about the CE scheme is that you get hands-on experience and your accredited training is fully covered. The new module that has been recently developed leads to an even more professional specific qualification so it would give anyone – man or woman – a great opportunity to gain a high level qualification in childcare,” she added.
