COMMUNITY groups in Inishowen have been given an exciting opportunity of receiving €10,000 to use towards a sustainable energy project.

The Inishowen Sustainable Energy Community [SEC] have been approached by a Cork based renewable energy company to provide one Inishowen community or voluntary group with €10,000 to carry out energy upgrades to their community building.

Inishowen Development Partnership are the lead partner of Inishowen SEC, a collaborative group including representatives from Inishowen Co-Op, Donegal County Council and a diverse range of industry and academic stakeholders from across the Inishowen community. It was established with a common focus on sustainability and a vision to change the energy landscape of the region.

SE Systems in Cork approached Inishowen SEC earlier in the year to make this generous offer for one Inishowen group.

If successful the winning group will be receive either €10,000 towards the cost of a Solar PV Project for a Community Building or €10,000 towards the cost of a Retrofit of a Community Building (This may also be used as match funding as part of an SEAI community energy grant application).

Paul McGonigle of Inishowen SEC and Team Lead at IDP said they are delighted to be able to facilitate this on behalf of SE Systems and to be able to give one Inishowen group a helping hand in getting more energy efficient.

“We are now calling on community groups to apply for this one-off grant to help make their premises more energy efficient,” explained Paul.

“With rising fuel and energy prices, we are all too aware of the troubles that are facing community groups in Inishowen. A lift like this could really help a local group to become more energy efficient – something which has benefits for everyone.”

The winning group will then be announced at the official launch of the Inishowen SEC Roadmap at a special event at the Ballyliffin Lodge Hotel on April 27th. Here a business plan for a more sustainable Inishowen will also be unveiled following an extensive consultation process.
